Today is the day!

The Apple “Whatever new Thing” is coming out as I write. Some guy is posting pics and I can’t wait to see if I had got it anywhere right

Let’s recap here my predictions, and (italicized) the actual announcement:

• I think a vPod or Video iPod is highly likely.

Video allright

• Same footprint as the regular 60gig Photo, maybe with a slightly larger screen (and therefore smaller clickwheel – à la Nano)

[18:28CET – 9.28PST] Definitely right on this one – see pics here and  here – didn’t anticipate how much this thing is THINNER than previous iPods, tho’

• Video out option is essential, maybe with a new Airport Express for wireless streaming to your TV – nobody wants to squint on a 2.5″ screen unless it’s absolutely necessary (e.g. transatlantic flight)

The new iPod has video out, but you need to buy an optional A/V cable. Not sure I understand this as the A/V cable came bundled with my Photo; anyway no Bluetooth or wireless connection to Airport Express

• iFlicks Movie Store (this is a great name, but I confess I saw it on /.) to buy movies online

iTunes 6 was also released – no, it’s not called iFlicks, and it doesn’t sell movies either. Just music videos at the moment and TV shows (blah!)

• 100gig, maybe a king size 120gig model, both in black and in white

Got the B/W part, but big disappointment on capacity which stays at current level

• 6hrs+ battery life

WOW! 20 hrs+ for the 60gig – we’ll need to wait until someone tests it in video only mode – suspect  it’ll be quite a bit lower

• $500+ (sigh !)

Well, no capacity increase, no price increase, so that kind of makes sense; basically you get the video capability thrown in for free

Overall, not sure I’m excited enough to upgrade my Photo as I’d have done had it had a more capacious HD
