As of today, both IBM and Google have announced Quantum Computing solutions. It is yet unclear to me if the two announcements are comparable, as Armonk already offers Quantum Computing as a Service, while Mountain View more cautiously said its D-Wave machine “seems to work” (pending peer review).

Essentially QCs use qubits instead of regular bits, benefiting from their arcane properties like superposition or entanglement: entangled qubits pairs transfer information instantaneously from one to the other pair member, even if they are taken to great distances and  Рfor a certain class of problems Рperform far better than even the fastest transistor-based computers using the best algorithms.

I just hope it’s not another wave of hype around a solution in search of a problem.
