Remember Open Source?

Used to be news not so long ago.

Anyway, Linus Torvalds just put the Linux core on GitHub, a popular hosting service that uses Git (authored by the same mr. Torvalds himself) for revision control.

I think the reason OSS has all but disappeared from our news feeds is that the bar has risen so much in terms of expected quality, to make its process much less of the beautiful adventure of a bunch of starry-eyed kids and much more a well organized team effort; in a way, Linus himself says it in this short interview:

[…] For the kernel, I just wish I had a way to disable pull requests entirely, because they are so worthless – even if you disregard any code issues, we just have much higher standards […]
