I remember how this used to tickle me: the small town where I lived for about 15 years, Basiglio, has consistely led the ranking for the italian municipalities with the highest average income. And this year, again, Basiglio tops the list (reports Il Sole 24 Ore), although it seems to me Galliate Lombardo is likely to snatch the top spot next year. First big town in the ranking is, not surprisingly, Milano (#13 !!!).
My current hometown of Lardirago near Pavia weighs in at slighly more than 21k per citizen, which probably ranks it there in the middle of the 8,000+ italian towns.
Two interesting factoids:
- there is a the big jump from the first two (50k+) to #3 which only has 41k
- Basiglio is the only Top Ten municipality with an (albeit slightly) decreasing average income
