I have been dabbling with the Digital Self concept, complaining about  shortcomings of current solutions, one being the fact I do not seem to own ANY of it. While I have been very happy since I moved to WordPress, it too does not escape this predicament. Where is my content? What happens if I want [...]

New look

Posted: August 18, 2009 in Life with WordPress

Somebody said my blog theme hasn’t changed in a long time. Not sure this is bad, but as I am lazying in the sweltering heat of St Raphael, let’s try to do some renovation. The Hemingway theme is, however, even more minimalist. Like it better, worse, who cares?

Steffi says: “Check this out”. She’s right. Oh, and BTW: WordPress now supports embedding of TED videos. Awesome! Info on how-to here

Zeitgeist

No, not Google‘s. My own, worrisome version. WordPress shows today in the “top searches” i.e. search terms which got people to this blog, “Joscho Stephan”, a fine guitar player whom I admire much and have blogged about once or twice, but next to it “sex with son”, a topic I do not remember blogging about [...]

This is it. I am officially announcing (to myself) that tonight I will start the hauling job from old Geektalk to the Son of Geektalk. Dislikes I still have reserves about the lack of support for <embed> tags; they are useful and I don’t understand why – if they’re [...]

A while ago I griped about the fact you cannot embed stuff into WordPress; turns out this is only partially so; true, the <embed> tag does not work, so forget about those nice code snippets you find on YouTube. Also, when you write in fullscreen, you get a bonus icon which – supposedly – should [...]

Traffic

Two weeks on WordPress, I think a Like/Dislike post in due, but maybe I should wait until I am a month old. One thing I noticed is that I am not getting ANY traffic from search engines, while old GeekTalk (whose quality of writing wasn’t any better for sure) was getting about 60% of its [...]

My first 24 hours with WordPress have gone by. General impression is very good, clean design, loads of skins to pick from, and this three column design is very efficient in using display real estate. No <embed> tag supported as of yet, so no embedded slideshows nor Google Maps – security reasons, I read. And [...]
